The second week of 2024 NBA Cup group play tips off Tuesday with the league’s only undefeated team taking on the defending champions in a key Eastern Conference clash.

TheĀ Boston CelticsĀ beat the previously undefeatedĀ Cleveland Cavaliers, 120-117, in Tuesday’s early NBA Cup game. Boston lost its Group C opener to theĀ Atlanta HawksĀ last Tuesday while Cleveland had entered the game as the fourth team to start 15-0. Cleveland handled theĀ Chicago BullsĀ on Friday in its cup opener. The teams both trail the Hawks by one game in the Group C standings after Tuesday’s result.

TheĀ Brooklyn NetsĀ outlastedĀ Charlotte Hornets, 116-115, in the only other East game of the night. The Hornets fall to 0-2 in Group A while the Nets move to 1-1.

The Western Conference games include theĀ San Antonio SpursĀ hosting theĀ Oklahoma City ThunderĀ in Group B action. Neither squad enters the game at full strength, with OKC centerĀ Chet HolmgrenĀ sidelined with a right iliac wing fracture that will keep him out for several months. Spurs starĀ Victor WembanyamaĀ will also miss his second straight game due to a right knee contusion, joining guardĀ Jeremy SochanĀ (fractured left thumb) on the bench.

The last West game of the night featuresĀ LeBron JamesĀ and theĀ Los Angeles LakersĀ hosting theĀ Utah Jazz. Earlier, theĀ Dallas MavericksĀ rolled past theĀ New Orleans Pelicans,132-91, while theĀ Denver NuggetsĀ beat theĀ Memphis Grizzlies, 122-110, withoutĀ Nikola Jokic. The reigning MVP missed his third straight game due to personal reasons.
